A compound of living cells and a source of energy for Animals. This class includes both simple Carbohydrates, i.e. sugars, and complex Carbohydrates, i.e. starches.

The composition of a pure compound will be invariant, regardless of the method of preparation. Compounds are composed of more than one kind of atom (element).
