The KitubaLanguage is a KongoBasedCreoleLanguage of the DemocraticRepublicOfCongo. SIL code: KTU. ISO 639-2: crp. Population: 4,200,000 (1990 UBS), 5,000,000 including second language users (1989 Mufwene). Region: Orientale and southern Bandundu provinces. Alternate names: KIKONGO-KUTUBA, KIKONGO SIMPLIFIE, KIKONGO YA LETA, KILETA, KIKONGO COMMERCIAL, KIBULAMATADI. Dialects: IKELEVE, WESTERN KITUBA, EASTERN KITUBA. Comments: A creole based on the KiKongo dialect spoken in Manianga area (Bas-Congo), but unintelligible to speakers of it or other Kikongo dialects. Influenced by Lingala, French, restructured Swahili, Portuguese, and other local dialects. Munukutuba of Congo is closely related. Means of communication among various language groups.
