RussianSignLanguage is a DeafSignLanguage of Russia (Europe). SIL code: RSL. ISO 639-2: sgn. Population: No estimate available. Region: Moscow, Armavir, Gorky, Kazan, Kirov, Kolomna, Kujbyshev, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Rostov on Don, Sverdlovsk have schools for the deaf. Also spoken in Bulgaria. Comments: Related to Austrian and French sign languages, but different. There are deaf associations and athletic clubs. Signed interpretation required in court, and used at important public events. Many sign language classes for hearing people. There is an organization for sign language teachers. Originated in 1806. There is a manual system for spelling. Dictionary. Elementary schools for deaf children since 1878. Films, TV, videos.
