Polymer
A Polymer is a substance or material consisting of very large molecules called macromolecules, composed of many repeating subunits.Polymers range from familiar synthetic plastics such as polystyrene to natural biopolymers such as DNA and proteins that are fundamental to biological structure and function. Polymers, both natural and synthetic, are created via polymerization of many small molecules, known as Monomers. [Wikipedia]
Relationships
Parents Molecule A molecule is the smallest unit of matter of a CompoundSubstance that retains all the physical and chemical properties of that substance, e.g., Ne, H2, H2O. A molecule is two or more Atoms linked by a chemical bond.
Children BiopolymerBiopolymers are natural Polymers produced by the cells of living organisms. Like other polymers, biopolymers consist of Monomeric units that are covalently bonded in chains to form larger molecules. There are three main classes of biopolymers, classified according to the monomers used and the structure of the biopolymer formed: polynucleotides, polypeptides, and polysaccharides.[Wikipedia]
