The MirandaDoDouroLanguage is an AsturoLeoneseLanguage of Portugal. SIL code: MWL. ISO 639-2: roa. Population: 10,000 (1995 SIL). Region: Northeast Portugal, southeastern tip of Tras Os Montes area, on the Spain border, at the latitude of Zamora, city of Miranda. Alternate names: MIRANDESA, MIRANDES. Comments: Related to Asturian and Leones. Probably separated from them at the time of the invasion of the Moors. A folklore group is promoting the language and culture. The language has been introduced into the schools. The people have a different style of dress from their neighbors (black, handwoven cloth). Official language.
