Instances | Autonomous agent | Something or someone that can act on its own and produce changes in the world. |
| animal | An Organism with eukaryotic Cells, and lacking stiff cell walls, plastids, and photosynthetic pigments. |
| cognitive agent | A CognitiveAgent is an AutonomousAgent that has the ability to reason, deliberate, make plans, and experience emotions. Although Human is a subclass of CognitiveAgent, there may be instances of CognitiveAgent which are not also instances of Human. For example, Primates, dolphins, whales, and some extraterrestrials (if they exist) might be considered CognitiveAgents. |
| corpuscular object | A SelfConnectedObject whose parts have properties that are not shared by the whole. |
| entity | The universal class of individuals. This is the root node of the ontology. |
| hominid | Includes Humans and relatively recent ancestors of Humans. |
| human | Modern man, the only remaining species of the Homo genus. |
| mammal | A Vertebrate having a constant body temperature and characterized by the presence of hair, mammary glands, and sweat glands. |
| object | Corresponds roughly to the class of ordinary objects. Examples include normal physical objects, geographical regions, and locations of Processes, the complement of Objects in the Physical class. In a 4D ontology, an Object is something whose spatiotemporal extent is thought of as dividing into spatial parts roughly parallel to the time-axis. |
| organic object | This class encompasses Organisms, CorpuscularObjects that are parts of Organisms, i.e. BodyParts, and CorpuscularObjects that are nonintentionally produced by Organisms, e.g. ReproductiveBodies. |
| organic thing | A SelfConnectedObject that is produced by a non-intentional process from an Organism. Note that this refers only to the primary cause. That is, a PlantAgriculturalProduct is firstly produced by a Plant, and only secondarily by a Human that is tending the plant. |
| organism | Generally, a living individual, including all Plants and Animals. |
| physical | An entity that has a location in space-time. Note that locations are themselves understood to have a location in space-time. |
| primate | The Class of Mammals which are Primates. |
| self connected object | A SelfConnectedObject is any Object that does not consist of two or more disconnected parts. |
| sentient agent | A SentientAgent is an AutonomousAgent that is capable of Perception and experiences some level of consciousness (see ConsciousnessAttribute). If the AutonomousAgent is able to reason at a comparatively high level (evinced by the ability to learn, plan, and feel emotions), then it is also an instance of CognitiveAgent. A DomesticAnimal is a SentientAgent, but may or may not be a CognitiveAgent, depending on the type of Animal. |
| vertebrate | An Animal which has a spinal column. |
| warm blooded vertebrate | Vertebrates whose body temperature is internally regulated. |
