Relationships




Instances  Abstract  Properties or qualities as distinguished from any particular embodiment of the properties/qualities in a physical medium. Instances of Abstract can be said to exist in the same sense as mathematical objects such as sets and relations, but they cannot exist at a particular place and time without some physical encoding or embodiment. 
 AssociativeFunction  A BinaryFunction is associative if bracketing has no effect on the value returned by the Function. More precisely, a Function ?FUNCTION is associative just in case (?FUNCTION ?INST1 (?FUNCTION ?INST2 ?INST3)) is equal to (?FUNCTION (?FUNCTION ?INST1 ?INST2) ?INST3), for all ?INST1, ?INST2, and ?INST3. 
 BinaryFunction  The Class of Functions that require two arguments. 
 CommutativeFunction  A BinaryFunction is commutative if the ordering of the arguments of the function has no effect on the value returned by the function. More precisely, a function ?FUNCTION is commutative just in case (?FUNCTION ?INST1 ?INST2) is equal to (?FUNCTION ?INST2 ?INST1), for all ?INST1 and ?INST2. 
 Entity  The universal class of individuals. This is the root node of the ontology. 
 Function  A Function is a termforming Relation that maps from a ntuple of arguments to a range and that associates this ntuple with at most one range element. Note that the range is a SetOrClass, and each element of the range is an instance of the SetOrClass. 
 InheritableRelation  The class of Relations whose properties can be inherited downward in the class hierarchy via the subrelation Predicate. 
 Relation  The Class of relations. There are three kinds of Relation: Predicate, Function, and List. Predicates and Functions both denote sets of ordered ntuples. The difference between these two Classes is that Predicates cover formulaforming operators, while Functions cover termforming operators. A List, on the other hand, is a particular ordered ntuple. 
 SingleValuedRelation  A Relation is a SingleValuedRelation just in case an assignment of values to every argument position except the last one determines at most one assignment for the last argument position. Note that not all SingleValuedRelations are TotalValuedRelations. 
 TernaryRelation  TernaryRelations relate three items. The two subclasses of TernaryRelation are TernaryPredicate and BinaryFunction. 
 TotalValuedRelation  A Relation is a TotalValuedRelation just in case there exists an assignment for the last argument position of the Relation given any assignment of values to every argument position except the last one. Note that declaring a Relation to be both a TotalValuedRelation and a SingleValuedRelation means that it is a total function.
